Concrete Cloth GCCM

Concrete Cloth GCCM is a flexible, concrete-impregnated fabric that hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable, waterproof and fire-resistant concrete layer. Essentially, it’s concrete on a roll.

Concrete Cloth GCCM

The unique structure of Concrete Cloth GCCM makes it easy to install for a variety of applications, such as channel lining, slope protection and containment. It can be hung vertically, laid in trenches or cut and formed into irregular shapes. Unlike regular concrete, Concrete Cloth materials can be installed in the rain and other wet conditions, which virtually eliminates project rescheduling. It has a low alkaline reserve and a low wash rate for a minimal ecological impact.

The material is available in three thicknesses that come in bulk rolls or small portable batch rolls.

CC5 - 5 mm

Batch Rolls

  • Roll Width (ft)  = 3.375
  • Roll Length (ft) 30
  • Roll Area (ft2) = 101.25
  • Unset Roll Weight (lb) = 141

Bulk Rolls

  • Roll Width (ft) = 3.375
  • Roll Length (ft) = 656
  • Roll Area (ft2) = 2214
  • Unset Roll Weight (lb) = 3100

CC8 - 8 mm

Batch Rolls

  • Roll Width (ft) = 3.625

Concrete Cloth material is part of a revolutionary class of construction materials called Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mats (GCCMs). It is a flexible, concrete-impregnated fabric that hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable, waterproof and fire-resistant concrete layer.

It is typically used to replace conventional concretes, riprap, shotcretes and some geotechnical fabrics for a wide range of erosion control and protection applications.

The most common examples include: ditch lining, slope stabilization, secondary berm protection, culvert invert protection and geosynthetic liner protection.

When stored in the manufacturer's packaging, Concrete Cloth material can be kept for up to 12 months after shipment without a significant decrease in performance capabilities.

Concrete Cloth material will start to lose its performance capabilities once opened and should be used within a few days to prevent any significant decline. It is a best practice to reseal any packaging after opening it to extend the shelf life as much as possible.

Concrete Cloth material has achieved Euroclass classification B-s1, d0, which is the highest achievable level for combustible materials. The US Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has certified that Concrete Cloth material passes ASTP-5011 standards for both vertical and horizontal applications. Additional testing based on specific applications can be conducted upon request.

The material can be hydrated using saline or non-saline water, and the water does not need to be potable. The minimum ratio of water to Concrete Cloth material is 1:2 by weight. It cannot be over-hydrated, so an excess of water is always recommended.

Water may be pumped from an available water source in the installation area or trucked in via a water truck. Most contractors choose to bring in water with a water truck or use a local water source.

It is not possible to over-hydrate Concrete Cloth material, but if under-hydrated the material will not reach its full strength and the setting time may be prolonged. The material will fully hydrate underwater from immersion.

The thickness you need depends on the application. Contact us for assistance with your specific application. Widths, sizes and weights/thicknesses are listed on our data sheets and product pages.

Concrete Cloth material is supplied in its natural color, mottled grey. The fiber surface of the material can easily be colored by painting with reputable exterior masonry paint.

Concrete Cloth provides a material savings of up to 95 percent, and it reduces the need for cement mixing equipment, which can reduce the environmental impact of construction works. For more detailed data on environmental data, please consult a Milliken Infrastructure Solutions, LLC representative.
The material has a low washout rate compared to other cements and a limited alkaline reserve. Concrete Cloth GCCM is not classified as an irritant like most concretes and is less damaging to the environment.
In some climates, untreated Concrete Cloth material will naturally turn green over time as the textured top surface allows moss growth. The fiber-reinforced concrete layer will prevent root-growing vegetation.
